Is Physical Education Making Our Kids Fat?

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

I'll take a long-view look at K-12 physical education by discussing the barriers to being physically active in adulthood and then discuss how K-12 physical educators can help remove these barriers. I'll pose and discuss questions such as: How can we disrupt the current system and the dogmatic pedagogy and beliefs that pervade education? Is online physical education a good thing? How can creativity and entrepreneurship help revolutionize physical education (and education in general)? I'll attempt to provide some actionable ideas but really want everyone to leave with more questions in order to keep the conversation going.

I spent six years as the coordinator of the physical and health education teacher licensure program at the University of Minnesota. We worked to partner with local districts in making change to physical and health education in order to better serve today's students. I am continuing the work done at the U of M at motivatePE.com in order to create a disruption in education in order to better create healthy lifestyles for ALL students.
